Who are you and what is your purpose?

There are some interesting articles posted on the Little Pink Book (www.littlepinkbook.com) that should sign-up for and one article particularly I found interesting and wanted to share with you called "Why Are You Here?".

The article reads:
“Without a clear sense of who we are and where we’re headed, it's easy to get off course,” says Dr. Ann Daly,  career coach, author and columnist for The Glass Hammer. Her secret to staying focused on the big picture? Clarity.

“Clarity is our inner compass; it keeps us focused on what matters most,” Daly says, adding that spreading ourselves too thin can make women more vulnerable to distraction and burnout. It's easy to get bogged down in day-to-day tasks and forget the higher purpose that keeps you going - at home, at work and in your everyday life. "To regain clarity," she explains, "you've got to step back and press pause."

Spring Cleaning

It's that time of year again. We dread it, but it has to be done. It is the only way to keep things fresh and livable. Its funny that some of the physical things that we are required to do in our everyday lives or as the seasons change, is the same thing we must do in our lives. 

Have you ever felt like you just needed a good cry?  Your soul just needing to cleanse itself? Or maybe you are finally done with a partnership, friendship or relationship that continues to weigh you down and you know its time to really be done with that situation. Well, that’s what “spring cleaning” entails when it comes to our lives. I know, easier said then done. But when you are in the process of going to the next level in your life, certain habits or certain people DO NOT QUALIFY to join you in your journey; especially when you are ascending to greater heights. We dread it and sometimes we procrastinate, but ultimately we must ensure that we do it. If not, you will find yourself in the same situation for years to come.  

Change and Growth is the only constant in life. Embrace that concept and renew your mind daily so that you can be the best you. Striving for Excellence isn’t about being perfect. We will always miss the mark when we try to  BE PERFECT. Striving for Excellence is giving your best and being your best. It is trying your hardest to emulate love and displaying integrity and character. Because once you give your best, that’s all you can give. So if you haven’t started cleaning or cleansing, today is a great day to make a decision to make it a part of your daily life.

While watching all these early buds and swallows,
I can feel tonight
that my heart's slowly growing over sorrows
as someone's horizon on smiley days might;

that it's getting bigger like all plants around
and light as a feather,
and that all happiness that's above the ground
and a Hell of pain wouldn't really matter:

It's longing for all things that a life as such
could give nice to thy,
and completely nothing wouldn't be too much--
its eager desire and hopes are so high.

Everything that's happened has been just a play
of my heart on fire;
my true love has never been given away
as much as I could and as I desire;

What exactly is Easter?

Easter gets its name from Eoster, a Teutonic spring goddess. It was originally celebrated on the spring equinox when the day is in balance with the night, and so we will again have more light than darkness. It was therefore the perfect time to celebrate the resurrected deity, whether it's Osiris, Mithras, Odin, Persephone, or Jesus Christ.

Everywhere we look there are flowers, chicks, rabbits, and colored eggs! All symbols of new life and fertility and have been part of spring celebrations for thousands of years.

The lily, now thought of more as a symbol of death, was a symbol of life to the ancient greeks and romans, and they decorated their Spring altars with them. Young men would offer them in the way that men now offer diamond rings.

SSE Update: 900 books donated to Students in Savannah

On Thursday, April 14, Sisters Striving for Excellence, Inc. will give 900 books away through our partnership with RIF (Reading is Fundamental) to students in the inner city of Savannah, GA. Each child will receive two books each and in May we follow up with providing another distribution.


RIF's mission is to motivate young children to read by working with them, their parents, and community members to make reading a fun and beneficial part of everyday life. RIF's highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8.

WIFTA Student Tuition Scholarship Program

The Student Scholarship program provides financial assistance annually to promising WIFTA student members.  Each year a scholarship of up to $1,500 is awarded to one (or more) deserving female student member(s) studying film/ video production at an accredited Georgia college or university.  Qualifying candidates are evaluated based on their academic standing, artistic talents and commitment to a film-based curriculum. Each year’s recipient is honored at that year’s WIFTA Anniversary Gala & Awards Ceremony; with the scholarship award being paid directly to the recipient’s college or university.  

All female, student members are eligible to apply.

Students who join WIFTA during the Student Scholarship Application period also qualify for a $10.00 discounted student membership rate of ONLY $35! JOIN TODAY!

The winner will be announced at the beginning of the 2011 Fall Semester and honored at WIFTA’s 37th Anniversary Gala in October.

ELIGIBILITY

To qualify, applicants must:

1. Be a current WIFTA member in good standing
2. Be female
3. Be a student majoring in, or whose primary field of study is film or video at an accredited Georgia 4 year college or university
4. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale

Required Items:

1. Completed application form
2. Resume
3. A brief essay (1000 words or less) highlighting your accomplishments and explaining your career goals
4. A Letter of Recommendation from an advisor or faculty member
5. Proof of current enrollment
6. A short sample of your work on DVD, 5 min or less
