5 ways to avoid germs in the gym….

By Angela Chambliss, SSE, Inc. National Co-Director

Now that your New Year’s resolutions of dieting and living a healthier life are kicking off, let’s look at some important ways to avoid germs while in the gym.

Avoid Gym Germs

1. Inspect the Gym Before Joining
Check to make sure the basics are covered—that it looks clean, they have an adequate housekeeping staff, and that the locker and workout areas look up to your standards. Also check to make sure it's well-ventilated. An air-tight gym becomes a prime spot for airborne infections.

2. Don't Go Barefoot
The shower, sauna, hot tubs and steam rooms are the perfect post-workout treat, but they're a breeding ground for germs. Wear flip-flops at all times to avoid irritating conditions like athlete's foot.

3. Don't Share Gear
It's so easy to borrow a friend's bar of soap or stick of deodorant--but resist the urge! It's a surefire way to start circulating unwanted germs and catch a nasty cold–or worse!

Avoid Gym Germs

4. Cover Up Cuts
Put a band-aid on any skin break or cut you have before your workout. Open wounds–no matter how small–are all bacteria need to get into your body. If you're prone to shaving cuts, you may want to hold off until after your workout.

5. Disinfect
Bring your own antibacterial spray or wipes and clean off any equipment you use--before you work out--to protect yourself. (And spread good karma by doing it afterwards as well).

Press Delete and Then Live your Dream!

This is a new year and a new beginning!  So what will inspire you to succeed in 2011? Is it Money?  Is it Fame? Or is it peace and happiness you are searching for? Whatever it is, start with a written down list of goals and achievements and mark them off as you accomplish them.  Find things that will motivate you and remove those things that will hinder you. Press Delete on all those things and people that are in your way. Things will start to manifest in your life when you believe that you can achieve and find your OWN inspiration to succeed.  Live your life to your own expectations and never let anyone’s lack of support dictate your achievements.

Make sure you:
  1. Press Delete on all things stopping you from achieving your goals.
  2. Write down the goals you want to attain and refer to this often.
  3. Find your OWN inspiration to succeed.

And then Live your Dream!

Keeping You Updated....and Aware!

January is National Volunteer Blood Donor Month (NVBDM). To increase awareness of blood donation the nations leading blood donation organizations, America's Blood Centers, AABB, and the American Red Cross, have joined together to promote NVBDM. First-time and regular donors are encouraged to make a difference to their communities by scheduling an appointment to give blood this January. Remember, just one pint of blood can help save up to three lives.
